Villa T

The project refers to the architectural study and construction of a two-storey building with basement and swimming pool on a 1160m² plot in Paros Island.
The building has a southwest orientation and consists of the main residence and two guesthouses. The guest house on the first floor is placed crosswise over the two buildings of the ground floor, creating a passage that resembles a small street of a traditional island’s village while at the same time complements the unified morphological entity of the whole. The division of the building into three distinct volumes along with its orientation variation achieves better natural ventilation, natural lighting conditions and flexible user privacy.
The general design was carried out with respect to the traditional Cycladic architecture of the island, maintaining small openings on the facades of the building and using the prevailing materials. The small square hole pattern combined with the square openings in the building facades and the stone walls evoke Cycladic towers while filtering natural light and air to provide atmospheric conditions of comfort. Passive shading systems by use of wooden pergolas are placed on the building’s facade and are integrated into the building volumes.
The outdoor space of the ground floor extends to the rooftop of the residence through a large outdoor staircase that leads to a relaxation area with a panoramic view of the mountain and the sea.
The interior follows the same philosophy of simplicity and purity with traditional and modern elements interacting with each other to compose a unique unified whole.
