Yolk

The interior design for this modern office harmoniously caters to the dynamic needs of both a theatrical production company and a law firm. Situated on the third floor of an old Athenian office building, the apartment was renovated to blend the identity of the two firms while ensuring a functional, inspiring and bright working environment.
The corridor to the office’s main entrance door is illuminated with a linear suspended light. A draping yellow curtain and a globe floor light beneath add to the whole composition and create an overall visually captivating theatrical entrance, that welcomes visitors and sets the stage for the unique environment within.
Inside, the office layout is thoughtfully organized around a central meeting room, the “yolk”. Surrounded by glass partitions and wrapped with a yellow curtain, it constitutes the core of the office. The curtain allows for the meeting room to be visually isolated or unified with the rest of the office spaces. With its semi-transparent weave and yellow color, it adds a signature touch that sets the tone for the entire office. Depending on the light and the needs for privacy it changes shades and creates visual variations when it is opened and closed during the day. A sleek black table surrounded by matching chairs is placed at the center of the meeting room contrasting with the yellow curtain, exuding a professional yet contemporary feel.
Due to the north-facing orientation of the apartment and the lack of natural light implied, glazing partitions have been incorporated to allow abundant natural light to flood the interior. Together with white painted walls and light beige granite-mortar floor they add a sense of continuity throughout the office, contributing to the overall cohesion and brightness of the space.
When the sun goes down, linear ceiling lights ensure ample artificial lighting. The different hanging heights of the lighting design allowed for intersections and continuities that promoted visual connections between the office spaces. This continuity is further enhanced when the lights cast reflections on the glazing adding depth while creating dynamic and visually appealing patterns. Decorative globe lights add a playful element and in combination with hidden ceiling illumination contribute to the overall ambiance of the space. When the curtain of the meeting room is closed and the lights filter through, a yellow tone is emitted, creating a unique feeling.
The wooden oak elements of the kitchen, the peripheral cabinets and the desks are strategically placed around the office space to offer practical storage and functional solutions adding a touch of warmth and sophistication to the whole design. Homey and cozy furniture pieces and decorative features invite comfort and relaxation, encouraging productivity and collaboration.
Overall, this new office interior design illustrates an example of blending professionalism with joy and creativity while catering to the distinctive needs of two different firms without compromise and stereotypes. Furthermore, it promotes the essence of a productive working environment and questions the norm of the typical office interior.
